Job summary

Lakeside Middle School in Charlottesville, Virginia is seeking a part‑time Teaching Assistant: Lunch Monitor for the 2026‑27 school year. Shift is 11:15 am to 1:15 pm, Monday through Friday, 2 hours per day.

The role supports the classroom teacher, supervises students during lunch and non-instructional periods, and helps with clerical tasks and transitions. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; willingness to learn instructional/management techniques.
• Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.
• Willing to seek and maintain CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Carries out instructional plans as designated by the classroom teacher and follows IEPs as appropriate.
• Maintains a pleasant and orderly classroom environment and assists with materials and bulletin boards.
• Supervises students in lunchroom and during non-instructional periods; assists with attendance and lunch money collection.
• Assists with discipline, movement of students, and related instructional activities as directed.
