Student Success Splst

Student Support Services-TRIO (SSS), a federally funded U.S. Department of Education TRIO Program, is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual to step into the role of Student Success Splst and join our team. SSS provides comprehensive and sensitive support to college participants, focusing on educational, social, and cultural experiences to enhance graduation rates for low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities. On occasion, weekend and evening hours will be required.

Our mission: The mission of Student Support Services-TRIO is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of program participants at the University of New Mexico Main Campus. The SSS program draws upon a holistic framework where committed participants receive individualized support by addressing their educational and personal needs.

The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students navigate through the university systems and is a proactive problem-solver, adept at working collaboratively in a fast-paced office environment. They embody a student-centered, holistic approach and are deeply committed to student success. They will be responsible for providing ongoing academic advising and provide support to participants' individual needs and career exploration. They will assist in the development and delivery of outreach efforts for program promotion and assist in attracting and retaining qualified applicants to the SSS program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works directly with SSS program students one-on-one or in a group setting providing holistic-proactive advisement, financial aid/scholarship advisement, advocacy and program services.
  • Assists with outreach and retention activities designed to attract, retain, and serve SSS students.
  • Supports activity logistics, communications and outreach that promotes an inclusive climate for the SSS population; foster a supportive climate and students' sense of belonging.
  • Assists in the preparation, logistics, and delivery of workshops (academic success, time management, study skills, financial literacy, FAFSA applications, career development, etc.), presentations, and orientations promoting student success.
  • Receives guidance, training, and mentoring from professional personnel in planning and carrying out activities and assignments; engages in directed professional development.
  • Maintains and documents records; assists with data collection to generate reports.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned to fulfill the SSS grant objectives and goals.

This position is multifaceted and impacts many key performance initiatives the university promotes to ensure that students are successful at UNM. As a result, the ability and willingness to collaborate with other departments, academic units, internal/external donors, and other university stakeholders is essential.

Conditions of Employment

All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the US-UNM Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher education setting and knowledge of campus resources.
  • Experience and or familiarity working with low-income, first-generation-to-college, and or disabled students.
  • Experience in working with TRIO programs.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize educational programs, meetings and or special events.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to outreach to students on a continuous basis providing guidance and support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.

Pay

Hourly: $19.56 - $26.85
