The counselor will collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, and community partners to promote academic, career, and social-emotional development for all students.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must hold a NC School Counseling license or equivalent.
  • Master's degree in school counseling or related field with licensure requirement.
  • Completion of a school counseling internship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and manages a comprehensive school counseling program as outlined by ASCA.
  • Involves other school staff in decisions about the counseling program.
  • Develops and maintains a written plan based on NC standards and school data.
  • Communicates goals to administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community leaders.
  • Provides direct services via Guidance Curriculum, Individual Student Planning, and Preventive/Responsive Services.
  • Consults with students, parents, teachers, and community personnel to meet student needs.
  • Interprets test results and assists teachers with student placement.
  • Helps identify and remedy policies hindering student and staff development.
  • Reports annual goals and services of the counseling program to leadership.
  • Provides counseling and follows up with students and families; collaborates with stakeholders.
  • Shares program information with staff to aid interpretation of student data.
  • conducts yearly program audits to assess implementation and effectiveness.
  • Adheres to ethical standards and applicable laws; participates in professional associations.
  • Serves on school-based committees; performs related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains compliance with all school policies and procedures.

Education

NC Educator License in School Counseling
Master's degree in school counseling
School counseling internship
