Position Summary:

The Student Success Coach serves as a highly visible, front-facing member of the Student Success Center and plays an important role in creating a welcoming, supportive, and student-centered experience at ASUMH. This position provides comprehensive academic advising, registration assistance, retention support, transfer guidance, and Veterans Services to current and prospective students. The Student Success Coach works directly with students from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances and must consistently demonstrate a positive, approachable, patient, and solutions-oriented attitude. The successful candidate will enjoy working with people, take initiative to assist students, communicate effectively, and make every effort to help students successfully navigate college processes. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other campus departments, the Student Success Coach helps students overcome barriers, make informed academic decisions, connect with appropriate resources, and progress toward completion of their educational goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Academic Advising and Registration
  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to students across ASUMH programs, with primary emphasis on students pursuing transfer degrees.
  • Help students understand degree requirements, academic policies, course expectations, and available educational pathways.
  • Assist students in selecting and registering for appropriate courses based on degree requirements, academic preparation, career goals, transfer plans, and individual circumstances.
  • Engage students in meaningful advising conversations that help them make informed decisions about their academic and career goals.
  • Maintain accurate and meaningful advising notes and documentation in appropriate student information systems.
2. Student Service and Front-Facing Support

  • Serve as a welcoming and accessible point of contact for students, families, and visitors, consistently providing a positive, respectful, helpful, and student-centered experience.
  • Demonstrate patience, professionalism, empathy, and a solutions-oriented approach when assisting students, including those who may be confused, frustrated, overwhelmed, or experiencing challenges.
  • Take ownership of student questions and concerns by providing assistance whenever possible and making appropriate referrals when another office or resource is needed.
  • Respond to student calls, emails, and other communications in a timely manner, generally within one business day, and provide appropriate follow-up until the student's need has been addressed.
3. Student Success, Early Alert, and Retention
  • Work individually with students experiencing academic or personal barriers that may affect their success.
  • Help students identify strategies and campus resources related to academic performance, attendance, time management, tutoring, financial concerns, career planning, and other needs.
  • Proactively contact students who may be at risk of stopping out or who need additional assistance navigating college processes.
  • Assist with institutional retention initiatives and other efforts designed to improve persistence and completion.
  • Document student interactions, interventions, referrals, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for veterans, active-duty service members, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and eligible military-connected students seeking assistance with educational benefits and college processes.
  • Assist students with VA educational benefits, including required documentation, enrollment certification processes, applicable ASUMH requirements, and coordination with appropriate institutional offices and external agencies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation and stay current on applicable policies, procedures, training, and requirements related to veterans' educational benefits.
  • Connect military-connected students with appropriate campus and community resources and provide support throughout their enrollment at ASUMH.
5. Recruitment and Enrollment Support
  • Support recruitment and enrollment efforts by assisting prospective and newly admitted students with questions and next steps.
  • Help students transition from admission to enrollment by connecting them with advising, registration, financial aid, testing, and other appropriate services.
  • Participate in recruitment events, registration events, advising activities, and other outreach initiatives serving current and prospective students.
  • Promote student engagement with available academic and support services.
6. Campus Collaboration and Programming
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff across academic and student service areas.
  • Work with faculty to understand program requirements and provide students with accurate and consistent advising information.
  • Participate in student orientations, registration activities, advising events, recruitment events, workshops, and other programs serving current and prospective students.
  • Conduct workshops that contribute to student success efforts.
  • Collaborate with campus offices to identify and address barriers to student success.
  • Participate in committees, special projects, and institutional initiatives as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Experience in academic advising, student services, customer service, education, or a related student-facing environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to providing positive, professional, and service-oriented assistance to students, employees, and campus visitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive, professional, and service-oriented assistance to individuals with varying needs and backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn and accurately apply institutional policies, academic requirements, and federal and state regulations relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on student needs and responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree, or equivalent experience resulting in broad knowledge of a field related to the job, plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training. Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in higher education preferred.
