Job summary

SUNY Adirondack in Queensbury, NY seeks an Advising Counselor to provide advising services to a caseload of students from matriculation through completion. The role requires regular in-person work at the Queensbury campus and the Branch Campus in Saratoga Springs, NY as needed.

Responsibilities include advising, helping with course selection, degree programs, academic success and career planning; participating in retention efforts; administering placement testing; and collaborating with campus

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree is required.
• 1-3 years’ experience in Student Development is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Banner, Starfish, DegreeWorks, Career Coach, or similar educational technologies are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides advising to an assigned caseload of students as well as incoming and returning students; provide walk-in coverage for Student Success Center
• Assists students from matriculation to completion; provides career/transfer pathway exploration and planning including course selection, degree programs, academic success and career/transfer options
• Advises students to understand institutional policy, regulation and process; supports navigation of college enrollment including academic, personal, financial and future professional success; refers to campus resources
• Assists with college-wide retention efforts, including call, email and letter campaigns
• Assists with administering placement testing
• Uses advising technologies and develops programs to improve student’s use of advising and campus technologies
• Works with colleagues to foster a welcoming environment for all students from underrepresented groups
• Develops workshops and programs informing the campus community on the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds
• Other duties as assigned
