Job summary

Eastern New Mexico University seeks an Academic Advisor to contribute to the planning and delivery of advising services aimed at student success, enrollment, retention, and persistence. Under limited supervision, you will assist students in making informed educational choices by providing academic advising, promoting programs, and referring students at risk to resources.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in academic advising or related careers in post-secondary education, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience, with a bachelor’s degree in higher education, education, counseling, social sciences, humanities, or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree required; master’s preferred for advancement or specialization.

Responsibilities

• Assist incoming first-year, continuing, readmit, and post-baccalaureate students in developing holistic educational plans.
• Inform students about alternatives, limitations, and consequences of academic decisions.
• Educate students regarding course planning, registration, and verification of prerequisites and degree requirements.
• Plan, implement, and present workshops on Student Success, First-Year Experience, Degree Evaluation, and Undeclared Majors.
• Support campus outreach initiatives by helping set up, execute, and dismantle major university events.
• Meet with prospective students to provide information regarding ENMU's programs and goals.
• Interpret placement test results to determine readiness for university coursework and schedule accordingly.
• Monitor at-risk students and provide timely outreach via early-alert systems.
• Collaborate with Academic Services and the Office of the Registrar on policies and degree pathways.
