The Student Services Specialist supports new and continuingstudents, providing a seamless transition throughout the enrollmentprocess. This role offers guidance to students on the ColumbusCampus regarding financial aid, records, registration, student IDcards, Ohio residency for tuition purposes, and all online studentservices functions. The Specialist generally assists studentsin-person, but also serves students over the phone, via email, andthrough chat. This position communicates with other studentservices areas to facilitate the consistent delivery of informationand services, referring students to other departments and resourcesas appropriate.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Student Support
- Works closely with students throughout the admission andenrollment process. Counsels students regarding financial aidprograms; regularly interacts with students and parents and followsup on missing or deficient information in person, by telephone,email, and chat. Gathers information from students to understandand evaluate individual circumstances; interprets relevantpolicies, procedures, and guidelines to determine best course ofaction.
- Advises students on issues that will impact their placement,enrollment, and financial assistance including the potential effectof changes in their course load, withdrawal from their classes, andeligibility for a refund of tuition charges, as well as adherenceto the Satisfactory Academic Progress standards policy and appealprocess.
- Provides computer navigation support to students utilizingself-service student portal and other electronic tools. Supportsstudents in self-serve processing of course drop/adds, completingthe admission application, signing up for College sponsoredworkshops and events, accessing enrollment verifications, makingtuition payments, resetting passwords, completing FAFSAapplications, master promissory notes, entrance counseling,etc.
- Helps with workshops and explains College admissionprocesses, enrollment steps, and ongoing student servicerequirements. Provides guidance to students on understandingtheirfinancial obligations and educating them on how to utilize federal,state, and third-party resources. Participates in the planning,coordination, and implementation of recruitment and advisingactivities designed to attract and enroll new students.
Customer Service
- Provides comprehensive customer service in a high volumeand challenging, fast-paced environment, resolving most issues onthe spot and referring students to the appropriate department forfurther assistance as necessary.
- Interprets and responds to student inquiries in-person, viathe telephone and electronically regarding admissions, financialaid, registration and general college policies andprocedures.
- Provides general support to students and guests, includingassistance with registration, student record updates, residencyverification, and financial aid processes.
- Facilitates prerequisite authorizations and otherpermissions required for student enrollment.
- Participates in and delivers engaging presentations. CreatesStudent ID cards and provides guidance on departmental andcampus-wide procedures.
- Attends college and community events to answer generalquestions about Student Central and the services provided by thedepartment.
Clerical
- Scans and copies documents, distributes and processesmail, updates and orders admissions/registration publications/formsand various office supplies.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records and otherinformation.

- Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Attends all required departmental meetings andtrainings.
- Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity whilemeeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures,with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College andbusiness partners.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of clerical experience in the area of theassigned specialized function.
- *An appropriate combination of education, training,coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.
