Job summary

Mercyhealth Wisconsin and Illinois is seeking a Patient Care Assistant under the supervision of an RN. You will collect data, assist with procedures, document care, and monitor for adverse reactions, contributing to safe patient care.

You will float to units as needed, maintain supplies, and participate in performance improvement activities. A high school diploma and enrollment in an RN program are preferred, with CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of High School or GED preferred.
  • Enrolled in an RN program or eligible, with no more than 2 semesters to complete.
  • CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days; ACLS/PALS/PEARS/NRP may be required per unit.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under direct supervision of RN:

  • Assists physician/RN with procedures as needed.
  • Reviews physician's orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient.
  • Provides patient treatments as ordered within scope.
  • Documents care provided in the medical record.
  • Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to the RN.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Floats to various units based on identified need.
  • Participates in department and unit performance improvement activities.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Graduate of High School or GED preferred
Enrolled in an accredited, or accredited eligible, RN program, in academic good standing and have no more than 2 semesters to complete until program completion

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (other certifications per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
