Job summary

ISO New England is seeking an Operations Process Automation Developer intern to design and build custom software tools for the PMO department. The role involves coding in Python, R, or SQL, analyzing data, and automating processes to help the electric grid run smarter and faster.

Ideal candidates are juniors pursuing degrees in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering, with strong problem‑solving skills, relational database experience, and familiarity with multiple programming

• Perform occasional data analysis to support departmental decision-making.
• Collaborate with OAT staff and SOMA business teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives.

About The Department

The Program Management Office (PMO) Department manages or delivers major projects requiring extensive cross-departmental participation. The department’s key responsibilities include enhancing grid reliability and market efficiency through the implementation of major corporate projects and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and free of errors.

What You’ll Be Working On

You’ll gain exposure to the electricity industry, from operational processes to market administration, while learning how automation and technology drive efficiency. By contributing fresh perspectives and technical expertise, you’ll help improve workflows, tools, and decision-making processes across the organization.

What We Look For in a Candidate

• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with relational databases and application development.
• Highly preferred: Familiarity with multiple programming languages, such as R, Python, MATLAB, VBA, SQL, and C#.

The expected hourly range for this position is $19-$36 per hour, depending on your year in college. Interns are eligible for some paid time off benefits and have access to our wellness program. Our internships also provide interns with exposure to the energy industry, mentorships, and real-world experience.

This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required.

To be eligible for an internship with ISO New England, a candidate must have completed at least the first year of college and be currently enrolled in a four year or graduate-level academic program. Candidates must have the authority to work in the US on a permanent basis, without requiring sponsorship.
