You’ll collaborate with economists, engineers, financial analysts, and data scientists, build clear visualizations from complex information, and gain firsthand experience supporting competitive wholesale electricity markets and the region’s evolving energy future.

Who We Are

ISO New England oversees the 24/7 operation of the power grid covering the six New England states and administers the region’s more than $10 billion “stock exchange” for the buying and selling of wholesale electricity. The power system is constantly evolving as new technologies emerge and energy policies evolve. There is a lot going on at our organization behind the scenes to make sure the region has reliable, competitively priced wholesale electricity today and into the future.

About The Team

The Internal Market Monitoring team helps protect consumers and market participants in New England’s wholesale electricity markets. The group mitigates the effects of uncompetitive bidding, identifies potential market design issues and manipulation, and evaluates market performance. You’ll learn from a multidisciplinary team that brings together expertise in economics, engineering, financial analysis, and data science.

What You’ll Work On

• Partner with economists, financial analysts, engineers, and data scientists to support the implementation of market-power mitigation rules.
• Pull, organize, and analyze complex market data to identify trends and meaningful insights.
• Create clear, accessible visualizations and summaries for colleagues and management.
• Evaluate market results and market-participant behavior to support fair, competitive energy prices.
• Build practical knowledge of wholesale electricity markets and ISO New England’s role in the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy systems.

The expected hourly range for this position is $19-$36 per hour, depending on your year in college. Interns are eligible for some paid time off benefits and have access to our wellness program. Our internships also provide interns with exposure to the energy industry, mentorships, and real-world experience.

This is a U.S. based role. If the successful candidate resides outside of the U.S., relocation will be required.
