Job description

Student Intermediate Level

The UNM InformationTechnologies Campus Outreach & Engagement team is seeking a student employee to perform hardware support and repairs for user departments. Resolve hardware, software, and communication problems/conflicts/defects. Will interact with customers, recommend, and purchase inventory, and control supplies and/or parts. Assist with Lobo BrainBar customer support. May assist with device decommissioning at our Surplus offices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves hardware and associated software and communications problems on university computer systems; performs complex hardware repairs and maintenance on a wide range of Windows & Mac computers and peripherals.
  • Provides intermediate hardware technical assistance and support; troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software, and communications failures and conflicts.
  • Evaluates existing computer systems hardware; based on customer needs, customizes and tests computer systems and resolves configuration conflicts and errors.
  • Installs, integrates, and configures new computer systems and hardware for users.
  • Researches, analyzes, and recommends appropriate computer hardware for customized computer configurations.
  • Reviews, prioritizes, and processes problem reports; documents the progress of projects.
  • Maintains a high-level quality of customer service standards in dealing with and responding to questions.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to perform intermediate repairs and upgrades on a wide variety of computers and peripherals.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems software, applications, hardware, and communications.
  • Records maintenance skills.

  • Ability to simultaneously coordinate and complete multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of advanced computer troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to diagnose the nature and extent of a wide range of computer problems.
  • Ability to install and configure systems, hardware, and peripherals.
  • Previous customer service skills in a technical capacity.
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair of computer hardware.
  • Investigating and resolving problems and/or repairing as specified by work orders.
  • Installing, integrating, and configuring new systems and hardware for users.
  • Knowledge of the Windows10 and 11 operating system as well as the Mac OS (a basic skill set such as ability to connect to and troubleshoot wired/wireless network connections, understanding of web browser settings, and other relevant areas necessary to connect to UNM services).
