Job summary

American University’s Office of Digital Learning & Strategy (ODLS) seeks a detail‑oriented, creative student to support Instructional Designers in developing online courses in Canvas. This part‑time, hybrid student position provides hands‑on exposure to accessibility, video formatting, and course design within a university setting.

You will work 5–10 hours per week, primarily remotely with occasional days in the Spring Valley Building office.

Qualifications

• A current American University student with an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
• Organized, proactive, and have a meticulous eye for detail.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities at once.
• Committed to delivering a high-quality online student experience.
• Basic understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and Canvas LMS is required.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop new courses and revise existing courses in Canvas.
• Fixing accessibility issues in files.
• Formatting slide decks for video production.
• Embedding video content on Canvas pages.
• Work in a team to review courses in Canvas for accessibility and quality assurance (e.g. checking for alignment with learning objectives, clear instructions, and correcting content link errors).
• Work independently to review video footage and correct machine-generated captions.
