The University of Kansas is seeking a Senior Orientation Assistant to lead and mentor the Orientation Assistant team, plan and execute OA training, and support incoming students' transition to campus life at KU. The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, reliability, and flexible, student-centered service during spring and summer periods.
Position requires prior OA experience, summer availability in 2027, and enrollment in at least 6 credit hours.
The primary function of a Senior Orientation Assistant is to serve in a leadership role during Orientation. Senior Orientation Assistants act as role models, assist with the planning and execution of training for the 2027-2028 Orientation Assistant team, and work toward the goal of assisting new students with their academic, social, and personal transition to the University of Kansas.
A strong candidate will have a s trong interest in developing, mentoring, and leading fellow Orientation Assistants to their full potential. They will d emonstrate leadership throughout the Orientation process. They will possess a desire to serve in a leadership role harmoniously with others. They will serve as a role model; demonstrate good judgement and ethical behavior. They will demonstrate the ability to work as a team player. They can motivate themselves and others; demonstrate a strong work ethic and demonstrate a desire to help others be flexible and creative.
The duties listed below will be divided among the Senior Orientation Assistants.
During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
