Job summary

Lake Huron Medical Center in Michigan is seeking a Student Extern to support the patient care team under RN supervision. The extern works at the level of the completed clinical section and starts as a nursing assistant with pathways to higher skills.

Applicants must have completed the first semester of nursing, be in good academic standing, hold a current BLS, and CNA is preferred. This per diem role offers valuable hands-on experience in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• 1) Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program.
• 2) Must be in good and academic standing.
• 3) Current Basic Life Support Certification.
• 4) Certified Nursing Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

• The Student Extern supports the patient care team under RN supervision.
• Begins as a nursing assistant and advances as cleared by the Supervisor.
• Performs direct patient care within the defined protocols and skill level.

Responsibilities

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.
