Job summary

Lake Huron Medical Center, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Student Extern to support the patient care team in a per diem capacity. Under RN supervision, you will perform direct patient care within established protocols and expand skills as you progress.

The extern starts as a nursing assistant-capacity and, once cleared by the supervisor, can move to higher skill levels, contributing to daily patient care and care planning.

Qualifications

• Completed the first semester of nursing program
• Must be in good academic standing
• Current Basic Life Support Certification
• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred

Responsibilities

• The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team under the supervision of an RN.
• Provides direct patient care within established protocols and expanded skill levels.
• Will begin as a nursing assistant-capacity and advance to appropriate skill level as cleared by Supervisor.
• Per Diem position with day shifts, contributing to the patient care plan.

Responsibilities

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.
