Job summary

Lake Huron Medical Center, part of Prime Healthcare, is seeking a Student Extern to support the patient care team under RN supervision. Externs perform at the level they've completed in their clinical program, beginning as a nursing assistant and advancing as cleared.

Requirements include the first semester of a nursing program, good academic standing, current BLS certification, and CNA certification preferred. Per diem scheduling and flexible shifts are offered.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the first semester of a nursing program with good academic standing.
• Current Basic Life Support Certification is required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant certification is preferred.
• Per Diem student extern role; under RN supervision and progression to higher skill levels as cleared.

Responsibilities

• Support patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Begin as a nursing assistant and advance to appropriate skill level as cleared by supervision.

Responsibilities

The Student Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level.
