Job summary

MacKay & Somps is seeking a Student Engineer eager to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects in civil engineering. You will support land development and public infrastructure efforts across Northern California, working alongside engineers, designers, and surveyors to deliver thoughtful, well-executed design.

We are interviewing for Summer 2026, with offers around Feb 2027 and a June 2027 start date. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Coursework in site design, hydrology, transportation, or stormwater systems.
• Exposure to or interest in learning AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support land development and public infrastructure design and production.
• Assist with grading, utility, stormwater, and street design.
• Support hydrology and hydraulic calculations.
• Perform quantity take-offs and basic cost estimating.
• Learn to use design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office tools.
