Job summary

The Ohio State University’s CFAES invites applications for a Student Engagement Support Specialist in Agricultural Administration. Reporting to the Lead Academic Success and Enrichment Specialist, you will engage undergraduate students, support first-year success initiatives, and coordinate living-learning communities and student clubs.

Responsibilities

  • Support 25% of Student Success initiatives: coordinate first-year orientation, week of welcome activities, peer mentor programs, and student recognitions.
  • LLC Coordinator: develop weekly programming for CFAES Living-Learning Communities and Kellogg-Moser Food Security and Sustainability LLC, coordinate early arrivals and field trips, review new member applications.
  • Student involvement: co-advisor for CFAES Student Council; support clubs, train leaders, and assist with student competitions and recognitions.
  • Administration: handle daily operations including requisitions, room reservations, vendor purchases, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate web content and social media accounts; develop weekly newsletters and marketing pieces for events.
  • Other duties as needed

Job Title:

Student Engagement Support Specialist Department: FAES | Academic Program Administration Reporting to the Lead Academic Success and Enrichment Specialist, this position serves as an accessible frontline resource for students and student organizations, engaging regularly with undergraduate students in a variety of settings while positively and professionally representing the holistic student development goals of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. Two years of experience in event management, student success support, academic advising, university housing experience, or similar student-support work. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines. Ability to independently troubleshoot issues in the moment during event management, exhibits sound judgement in providing guidance and direction to others, efficiently and effectively manages resources, plans budgets, navigates defined requisition and purchasing decisions. Able to make decisions on events, programs, and recognitions that would be meaningful and engaging for undergraduate students. Familiarity with social media management, website content management systems, and newsletter layout and formatting. Position requires some evening and weekend engagement and occasional in-state travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Four years of relevant experience. Prior experience with Workday, graphic design, website and social media management Familiarity with CFAES academic programs and content

Job Duties:
  • 25% Support of Student Success: Coordinate first-year student success and retention initiatives including: daily involvement and support with new student summer orientation events, week of welcome activities (examples: pre-convocation and early arrival programming), peer mentor program support, connecting students with college and university resources, and coordination with academic units and Academic Programs Office staff in scheduling/planning/executing end-of-year activities/celebrations/student recognition events in coordination with CFAES Events Planning Team
  • 25% LLC Coordinator: Serve as academic partner for CFAES Living-Learning Community and Kellogg-Moser Food Security and Sustainability Living-Learning Community; develop and implement weekly programming; coordinate early arrival programming and off-campus trips; coordinate student projects; review and selection of new members; serve as co-instructor for Kellogg-Moser Living-Learning Community Seminar (FAES 1200).
  • 20% Student involvement: Serve as co-advisor for CFAES Student Council; responsible for knowledge of policies and procedures; facilitates student involvement through student clubs and organizations; serve as CFAES point of contact for CFAES student club and organizational needs; facilitates training exercises for leaders of student clubs and organizations; serve as CFAES point of contact for CFAES student competitive/judging team needs; maintain list of clubs/organizations in CFAES and their annual recognitions; organize Student Council awards; organize Newcomb Scholar awards
  • 15% Administration: Coordinate daily administrative operations for student success including, but not limited to: fiscal (entering requisitions and related processes, budget tracking), entering room reservations; works with internal and external vendors for purchasing; responsible for identifying best practices and implementing process improvements to promote efficiency and quality; supporting scholarship administration duties as needed
  • 10% Coordinate web content and social media accounts; coordinate and develop weekly academic programs newsletter; coordinate and develop marketing and communications pieces for various events and programs
  • 5% Other duties as needed
