Job summary

The Student Support Advocate (SSA) at KIPP New Jersey in Newark keeps students safe, supported, and ready to learn. Under the Assistant Principal of Culture, SSAs provide hallway presence, support in the student store, and small-group guidance, freeing Deans to focus on culture and compliance.

SSAs manage a small caseload, observe students in classrooms, and collaborate with teachers and Deans to deliver timely, data-informed support and consistent communication across the school.

Qualifications

• Experience working with kids, ideally in a high school environment.
• Strong presence; believes all children can and will learn, upholds high expectations for all students.
• Strong relationships with staff, families, students, leadership.

Responsibilities

• Hallways & transitions: supervise and maintain safe, orderly movement.
• Student Store: staff and support store operations and inventory.
• Caseload Support & Classroom Observation: maintain caseload and observe students regularly.
• Supporting Deans & Assistant Deans: assist with day-to-day culture systems and events.
