Job summary

Abilene ISD is seeking a Student Support Services/Behavior Support professional at Cooper High School to develop positive relationships with students, teach social skills, and promote conflict resolution. This role collaborates with families, teachers, and community partners to resolve personal and social problems affecting student adjustment and engagement in school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience selecting and implementing methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
  • Knowledge of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) methodology and process.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
  • Experience working with early childhood.

Responsibilities

  • Select and implement methods of behavior support and interventions appropriate for students with significant behavior issues.
  • Provide direct instruction and support in the teaching of social skills and teach responsible positive behavior to students with significant behavioral issues.
  • Provide in-class support for teachers and students.
  • Perform casework service with parents to increase the parents' understanding and constructive participation.
  • Serve as a liaison between student, home, school, and community resources.
  • Provide crisis intervention and preventive support as needed by students and their families.
  • Make home visits to gather information relating to students.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and other school/district personnel to determine cause of student problems and effect solutions.
  • Arrange for medical, psychiatric, and other tests and examinations that may disclose causes of difficulties and indicate remedial measures.
  • Assist with drop-out recovery efforts working with the High School Completion, Attendance and Crisis Intervention Specialists.
  • Serve as consultant to school personnel regarding students or situations that are not referred for the direct district or outside services.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.
  • Develop and conduct parenting training and support group.
  • Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
