Job summary

LSU New Orleans seeks a Student-Athlete Academic Services Advisor to provide academic counseling and oversee study hall, tutoring, and meetings for assigned teams. You will coordinate class scheduling and monitor progress to support eligibility.

You will collaborate with coaches, faculty and advisors, prepare academic reports, and help at-risk student-athletes develop time-management plans. Some travel and evening/weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in higher education or with high school students.
• Knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility rules.
• Proven ability to develop and sustain relationships with various constituents.
• Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and travel.

Responsibilities

• Provides academic counseling and class scheduling assistance for student-athletes and assigned teams as designated by the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services.
• Monitors academic performance, tutor appointments, and prepares and distributes academic reports for designated sports.
• Meets regularly with at-risk student-athletes to develop effective academic and time-management plans and to assess academic progress and eligibility status.
• Liaises with First Year and Academic Advisors to monitor student-athlete registration and degree progress.
• Maintains open and consistent contact with coaches and administrators, faculty and University support staff.
• Assists with teaching UNIV 1001 seminar course for first-year student-athletes.
• Work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services to ensure compliance with NCAA continuing eligibility certification process.
• Assists with award programming honoring the academic and athletic achievements of student-athletes.
• Develops strong working relationships with student-athletes to emphasize the value of education and self-reliance.
