Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Editorial Lead to build the storytelling engine for the OpenAI Student Collective. You will stay close to how students use ChatGPT, Codex, APIs, and future OpenAI products, identifying compelling use cases and people, and turning them into stories, resources, campaigns, and internal insights.

The role blends editorial judgment, writing, reporting, community instinct, and creative production. You should be AI-obsessed and eager to experiment with new formats across channels.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and editorial judgment, with journalism, communications, editorial, or storytelling experience.
• Strong interviewing instincts and ability to identify compelling people and use cases.
• Ability to translate technical AI use cases into accessible stories and resources.
• Active fluency with AI tools; you should be using tools like ChatGPT, Codex, or related tech.
• High agency and comfort building something from zero in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
• Strong organization and pipeline management across students, stories, channels, and approvals.
• Experience with students, creators, educators, community programs, or internet-native audiences.
• Good judgment around privacy, consent, and representing student stories responsibly.
• Bonus: multimedia storytelling ability, including video editing or short-form production.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a public home for student stories and resources.
• Develop a regular publishing cadence to showcase student work.
• Interview students, review projects, and identify notable people and moments.
• Turn examples into clear stories across formats: profiles, posts, videos, guides.
• Run the recruitment marketing campaign for the Student Collective and its messaging.
• Partner with Social, Comms, Stories Engine, Marketing, Education, Product, and agencies to amplify stories.
• Own the internal storytelling loop, roadshows, and cross-functional readouts.
• Collaborate with regional Community Managers to source stories and trends.
• Experiment with AI-native editorial workflows to move faster.
• Build templates so storytelling is repeatable across markets.
