Job summary

The University of South Alabama's Student Accounting department seeks a detail-oriented Data Specialist to handle student and departmental financial transactions in Banner and TouchNet. You will balance payments, assist students with payment issues, and ensure accurate deposit processing on TouchNet cashiering.

Responsibilities include maintaining high levels of customer service, supporting FERPA compliance, and answering questions about 1098T statements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with four years of bookkeeping or clerical accounting experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Experience with student accounting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and processes student and departmental financial transactions using Banner and TouchNet.
• Assists, directs and services students concerning payment and refunding issues using Banner and TouchNet.
• Receives and processes, including accurately balancing, tuition payments and departmental deposits on TouchNet cashiering system.
• Reviews and processes petty cash transactions on the TouchNet cashiering system.
• Assists in verification of incoming cash from the bank.
• Checks and processes depository daily for various payments and deposits.
• Assists students and parents at the Teller window.
• Maintains a high level of customer service when interacting with students and parents via email, telephone and in person.
• Complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act when counseling students and parents.
• Answers general student questions regarding 1098T statements.
• Assists with imaging deferment and FERPA forms.
• Processes third party payments for vendor accounts; responsible for daily maintenance of office hardware.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
• Related duties as required.
