Job summary

Jobot in Madison, WI is seeking structured cabling technicians to install, terminate, test, and maintain commercial cabling systems across local projects. Opportunities range from developing technicians to Lead Technicians who can independently manage installations and crews of 3–8 technicians.

Qualified candidates have experience in commercial low-voltage environments and a strong focus on clean, organized, professional installations.

Qualifications

  • Commercial structured cabling or low-voltage installation experience preferred.
  • Experience with Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A cabling and fiber optic installation desirable.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and labeling standards; ability to read blueprints.

Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate copper cabling (Cat5e/6/6A) to spec.
  • Install, terminate, test, and document fiber cabling and pathways.
  • Build out telecom spaces, racks, patch panels, and wire management.
  • Read project plans and maintain accurate labor/material records.
  • Lead medium-to-large cabling installs and crews for Lead candidates.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues and maintain company vehicle/equipment.

Established Commercial Low-Voltage Systems Integrator Seeks Structured Cabling Technicians of All Experience Levels!

We are an established commercial low-voltage systems integrator serving businesses and organizations throughout the Madison area and surrounding Wisconsin communities. For more than 20 years, our team has designed, installed, serviced, and supported technology systems across a wide variety of commercial environments.

Our capabilities include structured cabling, security and access control, video surveillance, audio/video, and communications systems.

We are currently expanding our field team and are interested in speaking with Structured Cabling Technicians at multiple experience levels — from developing technicians looking to grow their skills to experienced Lead Technicians capable of independently running projects and leading installation crews.

Job Details

We are seeking Structured Cabling Technicians and Lead Cabling Technicians to install, terminate, test, repair, and maintain commercial structured cabling systems throughout the Madison area.

We are open to candidates across a range of experience levels. Developing technicians may work alongside experienced team members while expanding their technical skills, while experienced Lead Technicians may independently manage installations and direct crews of approximately 3–8 technicians.

Our ideal candidates come from a commercial structured cabling or low-voltage environment and take pride in delivering clean, organized, professional installations.

Responsibilities
  • Install and terminate Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A copper cabling
  • Install, terminate, test, and document fiber optic cabling
  • Perform copper cable testing and document results
  • Build out and dress telecommunications rooms, racks, patch panels, and wire management
  • Perform terminations on 110 and 66 blocks
  • Install multimedia and other low-voltage cabling
  • Install external raceways and associated pathways
  • Perform cable routing, labeling, organization, and documentation
  • Install sound and paging equipment
  • Install access control, security, and video surveillance field hardware as needed
  • Perform commercial new construction, renovation, recabling, and service work
  • Read and interpret project plans, cabling layouts, and installation requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of labor and materials
  • Prepare installation documentation, cable paths, testing results, as-builts, and schematics as applicable
  • For Lead-level candidates, organize and lead medium-to-large cabling installations and crews of approximately 3–8 technicians
  • Provide technical support and guidance to other technicians
  • Maintain assigned company vehicle and equipment, where applicable
Qualifications
  • Commercial structured cabling or low-voltage installation experience preferred
  • Experience with Cat5e, Cat6, and/or Cat6A cabling
  • Fiber optic installation and termination experience is highly desirable
  • Experience with copper and fiber testing equipment is a plus
  • Familiarity with racks, patch panels, telecom closets, cable management, and labeling standards
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, plans, and technical documentation
  • Understanding of industry installation standards and applicable building codes
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to work effectively with limited supervision
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to safely work from ladders, scissor lifts, and articulated boom lifts
  • Ability to lift and maneuver equipment associated with field installations
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

No specific license is required. Manufacturer and industry certifications are a plus, but not mandatory. We are willing to help qualified technicians obtain certifications relevant to the systems and products they will support.

Experience Level

We are intentionally considering candidates across a range of experience levels.

Technician-level candidates may have several years of commercial cabling experience and be capable of performing installations as a productive member or strong second technician on a project.

Lead-level candidates should have extensive commercial structured cabling experience and be capable of independently running projects, coordinating crews, interpreting plans, building out telecom spaces, troubleshooting issues, documenting installations, and ensuring work meets quality and industry standards.
