Job summary

Equiliem is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician II to install, terminate, test and maintain structured cabling in commercial, industrial, government and data center environments. You will build IT closets, route cabling, install pathways, terminate panels and connectors, and install WAPs, following industry standards and safety requirements.

The role requires at least 2 years of experience with CAT6/Structured cabling, reading blueprints, and working safely on active construction sites;

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial structured cabling, low voltage, or data cable installation experience.
  • Experience installing shielded CAT6 cabling in commercial/industrial/data center environments.
  • Experience terminating shielded CAT6 jacks, RJ45 connectors, and rack‑mounted patch panels.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting CAT6 cabling; Fluke Versiv experience preferred.
  • Fiber optic installation and termination experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and installation details.
  • Familiarity with data center environments preferred.
  • Ability to work safely in active construction environments.
  • Willingness to work overtime as project demands require.
  • Travel is generally not required; may travel for designated full‑time travel assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Install CAT5e and CAT6 structured cabling systems.
  • Route and dress cable into IT closets, modular furniture, and workstation outlets.
  • Install cable pathways, including J-hooks, D-rings, cable trays, and ladder racks.
  • Label, organize, and manage cabling to maintain clean installations.
  • Terminate patch panels, keystone jacks, RJ45 connectors, and modular plugs.
  • Install wireless access points (WAPs).
  • Build and install IT closets, including MDFs, IDFs, data racks, ladder racks, cable trays, and sleeves.
  • Install, terminate, and support fiber optic cabling.
  • Install, label, and terminate rack‑mounted patch panels.
  • Test and troubleshoot copper cabling using industry‑standard testing equipment.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and installation documentation.
  • Maintain professional communication with team members, supervisors, and project stakeholders.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and all job site safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Structured Cabling Technician II is responsible for installing, terminating, testing, and maintaining structured cabling systems in commercial, industrial, government, and data center environments. This contract-to-hire position supports infrastructure projects by installing copper and fiber cabling, building IT closets, interpreting construction drawings, and ensuring all work meets industry standards and safety requirements. The ideal candidate is experienced in structured cabling installations, demonstrates strong technical skills, and maintains a commitment to quality, safety, and professionalism.

Job Responsibilities
  • Install CAT5e and CAT6 structured cabling systems.

Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial structured cabling, low voltage, or data cable installation experience.
  • Experience installing shielded CAT6 structured cabling in commercial, industrial, or data center environments.
  • Experience terminating shielded CAT6 jacks, RJ45 connectors, and rack‑mounted patch panels.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting CAT6 cabling; Fluke Versiv experience preferred.
  • Fiber optic installation and termination experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and installation details.
  • Familiarity with data center environments preferred.
  • Ability to work safely in active construction environments.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • BICSI Certification (Level 1 or higher) preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
  • Scissor Lift Certification preferred.
  • Ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and work on feet for the duration of the shift.
  • Proficiency with standard structured cabling hand tools, including screwdrivers, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, cable stripper, punch down tool, modular plug crimper, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel or composite toe work boots.
  • Willingness to work overtime as project demands require.
  • Travel is generally not required; however, travel may be required for designated full‑time travel assignments supporting projects in multiple states.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
