Job summary

IMEG in Farmington Hills, MI is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern for a 10–12 week summer program to assist with analysis, design, and oversight of structural systems for a variety of building types while collaborating with experienced engineers.

You will support project documentation, quality reviews, and coordination across disciplines to help meet budgets and client expectations, joining a broad team working on education, housing, automotive, industrial, and municipal projects.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in design consulting.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and BIM software.

Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist in the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for a variety of building types while working closely with experienced engineers and consultants. You'll collaborate across disciplines, support project documentation and quality reviews, and contribute to work delivered within project budgets and client expectations. You'll join a structural team serving commercial and institutional markets, with experience across education, housing, automotive and industrial, and municipal projects, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with structural design portions of projects according to code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with researching and finding resources related to projects
  • Support good client relations, the project design notebook, and documentation for permanent record files
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and supplier teams
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement
What You'll Bring
Required Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Experience

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

Pay Range

$22.00 - 24.00 per hour

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location. Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
