Job summary

IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in St. Louis, MO to support the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems for buildings and other structures.

Over a 10-12 week summer program, you'll gain hands-on exposure while working with experienced engineers and consultants. This full-time in-office internship offers a mentor-led experience across structural, commercial, and institutional markets, with opportunities to contribute to sustainable design goals including SE2050

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS in civil/structural/architectural engineering with at least 2 years completed.
  • Strong interest in design consulting and structural systems.
  • Ability to work in teams and document work clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with structural analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems in buildings within budget.
  • Assist with design portions of projects per IMEG standards.
  • Assist with coordinating design with other disciplines.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations.
  • Prepare and issue addendum information.
  • Document design decisions and meetings.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support project documentation and client communication.
  • Research resources for projects.

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.

IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering Intern in St. Louis, MO to support the analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems for buildings and other structures. In this role, you'll work closely with experienced engineers and consultants while gaining hands-on exposure to project work and structural design processes.

Over a 10-12 week summer program, you'll assist with project documentation, interdisciplinary coordination, and periodic job site observations while helping the team meet project goals and client expectations within budget. You'll contribute to work across structural, commercial, and institutional markets, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with structural analysis, design, and implementation of structural systems in buildings and other structures while working within the project's monetary budget.
  • Assist with design portions of a project related to discipline systems according to code and IMEG standards.
  • Assist with researching and finding resources with regards to projects.
  • Assist with good client relations, project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files.
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical and suppliers.
  • Assist with documenting design decisions, meetings, and instructions from client promptly while monitoring project design progress.
  • Assist with review of all project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and all other services as required by the contract services agreement.
Required Education and Experience
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (Building Information Model) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
