Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites students for a Summer 2027 internship in our Waltham, MA office, offering hands-on experience alongside industry-leading engineers.

You will assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, testing, and drafting while applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges. Travel and heights may be involved; strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Students with interest in civil/structural engineering, materials science, architecture.
• Maintain high grades and seek hands-on learning in a consulting engineering environment.
• Enthusiastic about developing sophisticated engineering work products.
• Strong communication abilities

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, construction observations and project drafting.
• Analyze materials, develop test protocols, and analyze test data with SGH engineers.
• Collaborate on reconnaissance of existing structures and field tests.
• Organize field data and assist with research to facilitate analysis and repair design.
• Perform analysis under licensed engineer guidance using hand calculations and software.
• Assist with preparing client deliverables including documents and reports.
• Travel and working from heights may be required
