Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Waltham, MA, is seeking a Technical Intern for Summer 2027 to work with our structural engineering team. You will gain hands-on experience alongside industry experts, applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects in a collaborative consulting environment.

This paid internship offers exposure to construction monitoring, materials analysis, field testing, drafting, and client deliverables, with travel and heights possible.

Qualifications

• Interest in civil/structural engineering, materials science, architecture, and architectural engineering.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, construction observations as well as project drafting, structural design and analysis, and site inspections.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, develop test protocols, design and construct testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze test data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures, conduct field tests, or monitor construction in progress.
• Organize field data and assist with research to facilitate analysis, problem solving, and repair design.
• Perform analysis under the guidance of licensed professionals using hand calculations and software.
