Job summary

Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Waltham, MA is seeking a Winter 2027 Co-Op intern in Structural Engineering. You will work alongside industry leaders to gain hands-on experience applying classroom knowledge to real projects.

The role emphasizes construction monitoring, field investigations, and analysis with opportunities to learn testing methods and prepare client deliverables. Travel to sites and working at heights may be required.

Qualifications

• Interested in civil/structural engineering and related fields.
• Maintain high grades and seek hands-on consulting experience.
• Strong communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction monitoring, field investigations, condition assessments, and project drafting, structural design and analysis, and site inspections.
• Analyze materials, support petrography staff, develop test protocols, design and construct testing apparatus, perform tests, and analyze data.
• Collaborate with SGH engineers to perform reconnaissance on existing structures, conduct field tests, or monitor construction in progress.
• Organize field data and assist with research to facilitate analysis, problem solving, and repair design.
• Perform analysis under the guidance of licensed professionals using hand calculations and software.
• Assist with preparation of client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
• Work may include travel and working from heights.
