Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a highly motivated intern for Summer 2027 in the Lansing, MI office to support Buildings/Structural Engineering. You will assist with calculations, drawings, and coordination across disciplines to ensure project safety and functionality.

The role offers exposure to steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles using Revit and industry software, with mentorship and hands-on experience on real projects from feasibility to construction administration.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Current junior, senior, or graduate student preferred.
• Experience with Revit preferred.
• Experience with structural design software such as RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS, etc. preferred.
• Completion of structural analysis coursework required.
• Completion of coursework regarding steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles preferred.
• Prior internship experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Become knowledgeable with internal systems for structural calculations, drawings and construction administration.
• Perform routine structural calculations by hand and with design programs to develop familiarity with material codes.
• Familiarize with design codes and methodologies for various materials.
• Hand sketch redlines on structural drawings for drafting technicians.
• Open and manipulate architectural drawings to verify work of drafting technicians and investigate coordination issues.
• Prepare calculation and drawing packages for review by project managers or engineers.
• Review material submittals and shop drawings for conformance with structural drawings.
• Assist with inspections, field investigations & surveys.
• Edit and compile relevant specification sections addressing structural items.
