Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Engineer to join our team at the Los Angeles headquarters. This role blends technical design with fieldwork to support critical water infrastructure and resilient project delivery.

You will perform structural calculations and seismic evaluations for buildings, tunnels, and water treatment facilities, and prepare detailed plans and construction specifications. Hybrid schedule with travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and six years of relevant experience, two years at Associate Engineer level.
• Master’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience, two years at Associate Engineer level.
• Experience in structural analysis and design for both building and non-building structures.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review structural design criteria, calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and reports for water treatment, conveyance, and distribution systems.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee projects to monitor scope, quality, budget, and schedule.
• Lead and perform site and construction inspections, structural evaluations, and submittal reviews to resolve performance, operation, or reliability issues.
• Lead project teams, oversee the work of external vendors and consultants, and negotiate contracts or agreements to ensure seamless execution.
• Conduct studies, lead the preparation of technical documents and reports, and deliver oral presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead the planning and execution of technical tests, investigations of existing structures and equipment, and special assignments.
