Job summary

HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding is seeking a structural engineer to analyze, research, and develop structural specifications for metal, non-metallic, and composite materials across systems including structures, mechanicals, hydraulics, and power plant equipment. The role involves evaluating damage tolerance, design allowables, and modeling with various software tools.

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant exempt experience.
Master’s Degree and 0 year of relevant professional experience.
ABET-accredited engineering degree required by Newport News Shipbuilding.

Responsibilities

Serve as a technical representative for O41 Plant Engineering on Facilities’ structural systems and design.
Provide technical direction to internal/external customers on structural matters to ensure inspections and construction meet codes.
Perform design reviews of contractor submittals for adequacy and alignment with codes and best practices.
Prepare/review impact studies to support LRSP for critical structural systems and equipment.
Perform structural evaluations and facility assessments; respond to safety-related issues (50% field work).
Direct work assignments of consultants/contractors to maintain safe shipyard facilities.
