Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Structural Engineer (PE) to support the U.S. Navy's Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) program, a long-term effort supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. This role focuses on the design, analysis, review, and execution of large-scale industrial and defense-related structures that support a high-fidelity naval propulsion training simulator. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with large steel and concrete structures, has taken projects from design through final construction, and has personally signed off on completed builds.

Work Environment:

On-site role in Dallastown, PA supporting a major Navy modernization and training initiative. This position works closely with engineering, manufacturing, integration, and construction teams supporting a multi-year effort to develop and deploy advanced propulsion plant training systems for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering review for complex industrial, defense, and mission-critical facilities.
  • Analyze and validate structural designs utilizing tools such as RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar software.
  • Support projects from concept development through final construction, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Review structural drawings, calculations, design packages, and construction documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and engineering guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evaluate steel and reinforced concrete structural systems supporting large-scale facilities and equipment installations.
  • Support manufacturing, integration, and installation efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering decision-making activities.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, construction, and integration teams to ensure project success.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and customer specifications.
Qualifications:
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) License in Structural Engineering required.
  • 7–10+ years of structural engineering experience supporting large industrial, energy, marine, shipbuilding, defense, or nuclear-related projects.
  • Demonstrated experience taking projects through completion and signing off on final builds.
  • Experience with both steel and concrete structural design and analysis.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis tools such as RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, ETABS, or equivalent.
  • Experience performing full structural system analysis rather than component-level or finite-element-only studies.
  • Strong understanding of structural loads, foundations, steel framing systems, equipment support structures, and industrial facilities.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and influence engineering teams without direct personnel management responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting Navy, DoD, defense contractor, shipbuilding, or nuclear programs.
  • Experience supporting power generation facilities, naval propulsion systems, marine structures, or industrial manufacturing facilities.
  • Prior experience supporting large-scale training systems, simulators, or complex government installations.
  • Experience working within highly regulated engineering and construction environments.
Compensation:
  • Target salary: $150,000 – $180,000 upon conversion.

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401k, paid time off, federal holidays, and sick leave.

Application Period: Opens on 10/06/2026 and will be accepted for at least 30 days from the posting date.
