Job summary

EM Structural, a growing structural engineering consultancy, seeks a Structural Engineer to join its Raleigh team. You’ll work with experienced engineers on a diverse portfolio, from concept through construction, with opportunities to take on increasing project responsibility.

The ideal candidate has a civil/structural degree, 3+ years of building-structures experience, EIT or PE progression, and proficiency with RAM, ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, and Revit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 3+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally focused on building structures.
• EIT certification or progression towards professional licensure.
• Experience designing with steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry or wood.
• Proficiency with structural analysis/design software.
• Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC and NDS.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering and design environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design using steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, wood and cold-formed steel.
• Design gravity and lateral systems for a variety of building types.
• Prepare structural calculations, construction documents and specifications.
• Work on projects including multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, institutional and other building structures.
• Coordinate directly with architects, contractors, developers and other members of the design team.
• Participate throughout the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction administration.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs and construction-phase submittals.
• Support project managers with project delivery, coordination and client communication.
• Contribute to value engineering and constructability discussions to develop efficient structural solutions.
• Utilise BIM and structural analysis software to develop coordinated designs.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes and structural design standards.
