Descrição da oferta de emprego

Our client is a growing structural engineering consultancy delivering building projects across the Southeast and wider US. The firm works with architects, developers, contractors and building owners on projects ranging from complex high-rise structures and large residential developments to commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, institutional and renovation projects.

Engineers are exposed to a broad mix of structural systems, including post-tensioned concrete, structural steel, wood framing, cold-formed steel, masonry and complex lateral systems, creating an environment where you can continue developing technically rather than being pigeonholed into one project or material type. These areas closely reflect EM Structural's published technical expertise.

The business has built a strong presence across major East Coast and Southeast markets and has continued to expand its geographical footprint. EM Structural currently lists offices in Atlanta, Tampa, Charleston, Charlotte, Raleigh and the Washington, DC area.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a motivated Structural Engineer to join its growing team.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on a diverse portfolio of building projects, supporting projects from initial concept and structural analysis through design, documentation and construction.

This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys technically challenging building design but also wants clearer career progression, greater project responsibility and the opportunity to work directly with architects, contractors and developers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design using steel, concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, wood and cold-formed steel.
  • Design gravity and lateral systems for a variety of building types.
  • Prepare structural calculations, construction documents and specifications.
  • Work on projects including multifamily, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, institutional and other building structures.
  • Coordinate directly with architects, contractors, developers and other members of the design team.
  • Participate throughout the full project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction administration.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs and construction-phase submittals.
  • Support project managers with project delivery, coordination and client communication.
  • Contribute to value engineering and constructability discussions to develop efficient structural solutions.
  • Utilise BIM and structural analysis software to develop coordinated designs.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes and structural design standards.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 3+ years of structural engineering experience, ideally focused on building structures.
  • EIT certification or progression towards professional licensure.
  • Experience designing with one or more of the following: steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry or wood.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis/design software.
  • Working knowledge of relevant building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC and NDS.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering and design environment.
Preferred
  • PE licence or clear progression towards PE licensure.
  • Experience with Revit and BIM-based structural design workflows. BIM is specifically highlighted as part of EM Structural's approach to structural design.

  • Experience designing multifamily, mixed-use, commercial or high-rise structures.
  • Experience working directly with architects, developers and contractors.
  • Exposure to post-tensioned concrete or complex lateral design would be advantageous.
Why Join?
  • Join a growing structural engineering consultancy with projects across multiple US markets.
  • Work on a genuinely diverse portfolio rather than being limited to one building type or structural material.
  • Opportunity to develop experience with concrete, PT concrete, steel, masonry and wood structures.
  • Clear opportunity to take on increasing project and client responsibility as you develop.
  • Collaborative environment with access to experienced engineers, project managers and senior leadership.
  • Support towards professional development and PE licensure. EM Structural publicly lists EIT, PE and SE exam reimbursement, PE registration reimbursement, professional-association support and PDH reimbursement among its employee benefits.
