Job summary

Mannik Smith Group is seeking a Structural Engineer in Lexington, KY to design transportation structures such as bridges, culverts, and retaining walls. You will assist senior designers, collaborate across disciplines, and ensure compliance with codes while contributing to cost estimates.

The role requires 5+ years of structural design experience, PE licensure, and strong CAD/structural software skills (AutoCAD, MicroStation, LEAP Bridge, OpenBridge, MDX, MIDAS). Hybrid work options may apply.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
• Experience designing transportation structures including bridges, culverts and walls.
• 5+ years in structural design.
• Project or client management experience preferred.
• Ability to guide junior staff and participate in design/detailing.
• Proficiency with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
• Proficiency with CAD software (MicroStation or AutoCAD).
• Proficiency with structural design software (Bentley LEAP Bridge, OpenBridge, MDX, MIDAS).
• DOT project experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Design of transportation-related structures including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls with reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, steel, and timber elements
• Assist senior design staff in structural design, drafting & review
• Collaborate with structures group, other disciplines, and sometimes clients to complete projects
• Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal guidelines and codes
• Develop engineers cost estimates
• Guide junior staff by providing direction and constructive feedback

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• BS or MS in Civil Engineering
• Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer
• Experience designing transportation structures including bridges, culverts, and walls
• 5+ years of experience in structural design
• Project and / or Client Management experience is preferred
• Ability to guide junior staff as well as participate in the design and detailing of structural design projects
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Proficiency with CADD software (preferably MicroStation or AutoCAD)
• Proficiency with structural design software (i.e. Bentley LEAP Bridge, OpenBridge, MDX, MIDAS, etc)
• DOT project experience is preferred
• Ability and willingness to assist with inter-disciplinary projects outside of structural design
