Structural Engineer


Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Structural Engineer at our Houston office. This full-time structural position is within our public works group and also provides the opportunity to support other disciplines on an as needed basis. HZ's portfolio includes prestressed, post-tensioned and conventionally reinforced concrete structures as well as steel structures.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and Master's Degree focused on Structural Engineering

Duties:

  • Design engineering of vertical structures for commercial & institutional projects, transportation and transit systems, federal and public works projects
  • Perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations
  • Develop structural details and construction plans using Revit
  • Provides input and technical guidance to BIM and CADD Designer/Drafters and other project staff
  • Work closely with Engineers and other disciplines to assure coordinated design systems
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration process

Key Responsibilities:

  • Productively collaborates with PMs and other project TMs and leads or encourages task teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on assigned project tasks and daily operations.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the PM on assigned project tasks.
  • Complete project task assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Effectively leads, creates, plans, executes project tasks on a project.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer required, Structural Engineer License a plus
  • (8+) years' experience in Structural Engineering including Construction Administration
  • Understanding of International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318 Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete, AISC Steel Construction Manual, AISC Seismic Design Manual and other material design codes
  • Ability to interact with clients and multi-discipline team members
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
