What we need
We are seeking a System Layout & Structural Design Engineer to join our System Layout & Structural Engineering team. Your focus will be on Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives. You will be responsible for validating, designing, and implementing system and process improvements that reduce costs, improve installation efficiency, and address safety and quality concerns.
This role offers exposure to various engineering teams within our organization, as well as to customer architects, structural engineers, construction leaders, and cutting-edge technologies in warehouse automation and material handling, including AI and Machine Learning.
What we do
The System Layout Engineering team is part of the Manufacturing and Supply Chain Organization, responsible for developing warehouse layouts, facilitating supply chain execution, and supporting installation teams. The team drives warehouse design excellence by incorporating customer feedback and focusing on reducing costs and project lead times.
What you’ll do
Utilize Autodesk tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit) to create detailed system layouts and 3D models that ensure high-quality, repeatable installations.
Design and optimize structural and mechanical layouts for automated systems, applying continuous improvement tools such as PFMEAs, standard work development, and process flow mapping.
Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, software, and installation teams to eliminate bottlenecks and improve design handoffs.
Partner with architects, facility engineers, and customers to error-proof installation workflows and validate solutions using PDCA cycles.
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve systemic issues.
Maintain deep knowledge of material handling equipment and leverage data to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and uptime.
What you’ll need
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in system layout engineering, including large-scale steel structures and CI project execution.
Proficiency in Autodesk software with at least 5 years of experience.
Lean Six Sigma certification (preferred) or experience with DMAIC, A3 problem-solving, or value stream analysis.
At least 2 years of experience in the material handling or industrial automation industry (preferred).
Our Environment
Up to 10% travel may be required; valid driver’s license and ability to drive or fly to client locations are necessary.
Employees must own a credit card and manage expenses for reimbursement on a bi-weekly basis.
