Job summary

National Grid plc seeks a Drafting Technician B-Structural in Syracuse to perform drafting and detailing for construction projects. Starting wage is $37.81 per hour with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, vacation, and tuition assistance.

Under supervision, you will draft and detail drawings, assist in 3D CAD models, and contribute to drafting standard updates. Growth opportunities include promotion to higher drafting levels after the review board.

Qualifications

• AAS degree in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Proficient in 3D CAD software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
• Ability to use drafting equipment and CAD in a skillful manner.
• Knowledge of materials and equipment used in construction.
• Ability to work with and guide the work of others.
• Ability to interpret and produce technical drawings and schematics.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Must pass a validated aptitude test.
• Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history.

Responsibilities

• Prepare finished drawings including diagrams, maps and records.
• Assist in creating and maintaining 3D CAD models of substation equipment.
• Develop simple drawings and details from complete information.
• Assist in updating substation design standards and procedures.
• Test drafting software/hardware to improve productivity and accuracy.
• Occasionally take measurements and data in the field.
