Job summary

The City of Atascadero is seeking an entry-level Maintenance Worker I to join the Streets Maintenance team. This role involves general upkeep of City infrastructure, parks, and facilities, with opportunities to learn vehicle operation and basic repair tasks.

Employees may participate in standby duty and call-back programs for after-hours and weekend maintenance and emergencies, as required by the department. This is an onsite position with a focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to learn to operate and maintain various vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to read, write and maintain routine records.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with others.

Responsibilities

• Perform parks and grounds maintenance tasks such as mowing, watering, pruning, and turf care.
• Assist in installation, maintenance and repair of sidewalks, streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains, and signs.
• Maintain cleanliness of assigned areas, facilities and equipment; perform restroom cleaning and waste removal.
• Operate and perform minor repairs on small to medium automotive or specialized equipment.
• Assist with carpentry, painting, welding, and plumbing tasks as needed.
• Provide standby and call-back support for after-hours and weekend maintenance or emergencies.
