Job summary

The City of Amarillo is hiring an Equipment Operator II (Street Sweeper) to operate street sweeping equipment and perform routine maintenance. The role requires reliable attendance and willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

You will be assigned to the Drainage Utility Department and report to the Drainage Utility Supervisor. A high school diploma or GED and a Texas DL are required; CDL training may be provided during probation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year experience operating a sweeper preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License required; ability to obtain a Texas Class A CDL during probation.

Responsibilities

• Operate street sweeping equipment and occasionally other trucks/equipment.
• Perform routine checks and basic maintenance on equipment.
• Take equipment to Fleet Services for repairs when needed.
• Change components on sweepers (broom, gutter broom, etc.) and assist with fueling and cleaning.
• Maintain safety through barricading and traffic control procedures.
• Complete daily reports and manage tool inventory.
