Job description

Skilled work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of street lighting equipment and whiteway facilities. Directs a crew of semi-skilled or unskilled laborers.

• Supervises the installation and repair of bases, poles, arms, and luminaries, and other street lighting equipment
• Makes emergency repairs on street lights on City-owned roads
• Makes repairs to lighting equipment
• Operates electric fault finding equipment
• Installs conduit and duct work
• Splices series high voltage or multiple circuit cable
• Drives and operates automotive equipment (e.g. auger truck, bucket truck etc.)
• Prepares and sets foundations for light poles
• Assists in concrete finishing work
• Troubleshoots circuit
• Installs new light fixtures
• Performs related work as required

• One (1) year experience in the installation and maintenance of street lighting equipment including wire splicing, conduit installation trenching, and general maintenance (including electrical boxes, panels, breakers and safety switches)
• Class "B" Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes
• Ability to direct the work of others and work at heights

Physical Requirements:

• Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact
• Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
• Ability to lift up to heavy objects and use a jackhammer to break up a sidewalk
