Job summary

City of Hastings is seeking a candidate to operate a variety of equipment in the maintenance, repair and construction of city streets, sidewalks, buildings and other municipal facilities. The role requires the ability to perform snow and debris removal, drive trucks of different sizes, and work as part of a crew on municipal projects.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and the potential need for a Class B CDL with tank endorsement within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of experience operating light or medium construction equipment or trucks preferred.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with Class B CDL and tank endorsement may be required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to perform maintenance, repair and construction activities.
• Assist in patching and concrete repairs of city streets and sidewalks.
• Perform snow and debris removal including sanding and salting streets.
• Drive trucks of various sizes for loading, hauling, and unloading equipment and materials.
• Perform labor as part of a crew on construction and maintenance projects.
• Respond to emergencies or snow events as required.

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of high school plus one year of experience in the operation of light or medium construction equipment or trucks. May be required to obtain and maintain herbicide applicator’s license. May be required to obtain flagger certification

Essential Functions of the Job

• Operating equipment to perform maintenance, repair and construction activities.
• Assisting in patching and making concrete repairs of city streets and sidewalks.
• Performing snow and debris removal functions including sanding and salting streets.
• Driving trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment and materials.
• Performing required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
• Performing snow and debris removal functions.

special requirements

Possession of, or ability to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license including a Class B CDL with tank endorsement and removal of the air brake restriction within six months of hire date.

HOURS

40 hours per week; normally Monday thru Friday, day hours. Position is subject to on-call status and may respond during emergencies or widespread outages.
