Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Three years of experience operating heavy equipment or equivalent training.
  • Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 12 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Adherence to safety policies, procedures and practices.
  • Familiarity with tools, materials, methods and equipment used in streets and drainage construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to establish working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment for street maintenance and drainage repairs.
  • Mixes and loads stabilized material into dump trucks for transport to job sites.
  • Assists with setting up barricades and traffic control around work sites.
  • Checks elevations of ditches and streets for proper drainage and water flow.
  • Shovels debris and materials to complete tasks and clean up sites.
  • Participates in maintenance and upkeep of equipment and shop areas.
  • Reads, measures, and calculates types and sizes of materials needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under general supervision, the Heavy Equipment Operator assists crews assists work crews constructing, maintaining, and repairing City streets and drainage systems by operating a variety of heavy equipment.

  • Operates equipment for street maintenance and drainage repairs.

  • Mixes and loads stabilized material into dump trucks to be transported to job sites

  • Assists with the setup of barricades and other traffic control around work sites.

  • Checks the elevations of ditches and streets to ensure proper drainage and water flow.

  • Shovels debris and other materials at job sites to complete tasks and clean-up site.

  • Participates in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment and shop areas.

  • Read, measure, and calculate types and sizes of materials needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Work is performed outdoors and requires exposure to inclement weather conditions, potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery, and hazardous chemical. May be required to traverse uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.



  • High School diploma or GED.

  • Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment; OR equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement within twelve (12) months of hire.

  • Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

  • Work safety and safety set up policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Tools, materials, methods, and equipment used in streets and drainage constructions and maintenance.

  • Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
