Job summary

City of Valdosta is seeking a street and drainage maintenance worker responsible for keeping roads and drainage systems in good repair. The role involves ditch maintenance, catch basins, drainage pipes, traffic flagging, and equipment upkeep.

Applicants should be able to read and write, perform basic math, and have the ability to operate a backhoe and other tools. A valid Georgia driver's license is required or must be obtained.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of street and drainage maintenance principles.
• Knowledge of the tools and equipment use in the repair and maintenance of city infrastructure.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.
• Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles equipment.
• Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair ditches.
• Maintain catch basins and headwalls.
• Maintain and install drainage pipes.
• Flag traffic at work sites.
