Job summary

CHA Consulting, Inc. in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a Principal Water Supply Engineer to lead critical drinking water projects from planning through construction.

You will supervise engineering studies, designs, reports, and technical documentation while guiding water treatment, storage, and distribution improvements. In this senior role, you’ll mentor junior staff, coordinate with project managers and clients, and help communicate complex concepts in a clear, client-friendly manner.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 15 years of engineering experience required, preferably related to drinking water systems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Strong understanding of water treatment and distribution infrastructure.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant3D, Civil 3D, or WaterCAD.
• Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
• Familiarity with engineering standards, QA/QC practices, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead drinking water infrastructure projects from initial planning through construction and completion.
• Oversee engineering studies, designs, reports, and technical documentation.
• Provide guidance on water treatment, storage, and distribution system improvements.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to keep projects moving forward.
• Mentor junior staff and support technical quality across projects.
• Evaluate existing water systems and recommend practical, sustainable solutions.
• Prepare reports and presentations for clients, regulatory agencies, and internal leadership.
• Support proposals and help communicate technical concepts in a clear, client‑friendly manner.
