Job summary

Bates White is seeking a Revenue & Billing Leader to oversee the firm’s revenue recognition, billing, and collections processes in Washington, DC.

You will manage the billing team, optimize the revenue cycle using D365 F&O and Power BI, and collaborate with Practice Managers and legal to ensure accurate invoicing and timely cash flow. This role combines strategic direction with hands-on operation of the monthly close.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year degree accredited university in Accounting preferred
• Minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience with the revenue and billing cycle in a professional service company, with demonstrated progressive increase in responsibilities
• 7 years of supervisory and/or management experience
• Ability to frequently operate a computer or other office productivity machinery
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without a reasonable accommodation
• May require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position

Responsibilities

• Oversee monthly revenue recognition process for time and expense, fixed prices, and other arrangements; develop and maintain written policies to ensure compliance with revenue recognition method
• Lead Billing Team and billing process, including matter lifecycle setup, maintenance, and monitoring, and ensure compliance with contracts
• Provide leadership to billing team to ensure accurate and timely billing and collections
• Develop and implement solutions in D365 F&O to optimize revenue, billing, and collection processes
• Collaborate with Practice Managers on client billing, bill rates, and e-billing; monitor WIP and collections
• Communicate with Practice Chairs, Practice Managers, Finance Partner, and Chief Client Relationship Officer on financial performance
• Improve capture of hours and costs for affiliates and independent contractors for monthly billing
• Coordinate with Legal to ensure fully executed contracts with clients for each matter
• Monitor metrics like cash collections, DSO, speed to bill WIP, AR and WIP aging, payment plans, write-downs and write-offs
• Perform root-cause analyses and develop action plans when metrics miss targets
• Summarize data for leadership and stakeholders clearly and concisely
• Participate in system implementations and upgrades for revenue and billing processes; assist with user acceptance testing
• Manage employee performance and mentor staff
