Job summary

HRB, a Washington, DC-based professional services firm, seeks a Senior Manager of Revenue and Billing to lead the revenue cycle and billing teams. The role focuses on optimizing cash flow and strengthening client relationships through effective processes and analytics.

Responsibilities include overseeing revenue recognition, unbilled activity, matter lifecycle, and technical implementations in D365 F&O and Power BI, while mentoring staff and driving performance improvements.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting or General highly preferred.
  • Experience with revenue and billing cycle in professional services preferred.
  • Supervisory/management experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee strategic direction for revenue and billing to maximize cash flow.
  • Maintain and improve client relationships.
  • Oversee revenue recognition, unbilled, billing, collections, and billing team management.
  • Own monthly revenue recognition for time/expense, fixed price, and other arrangements.
  • Develop and maintain policies to ensure revenue recognition compliance.
  • Manage billing team and matter life cycle in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Analyze unbilled, billing process efficiency, AR, and collections.
  • Communicate with Client Service teams to manage financial performance of key matters.
  • Provide leadership to ensure accurate and efficient billing and collections.
  • Implement solutions in D365 F&O to optimize revenue, billing, and collection processes.
  • Collaborate with Practice Managers on matter-related information and billing controls.
  • Improve capture of hours and costs for affiliates/contractors for monthly billing.
  • Monitor cash collections, DSO, speed to bill, AR aging, and write-offs.
  • Inform leadership about trends impacting financial performance.
  • Summarize data clearly for actionable insights.
  • Participate in system implementations/upgrades for revenue/billing processes.
  • Mentor staff and manage performance.

Senior Manager, Revenue and Billing

Compensation: $135,000 - $160,000 + disc. annual bonus (compensation is based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including qualifications and experience, education, external market data and internal equity).

Role Overview
  • Be ready to manage strategic direction for the revenue and billing function to maximize cash flow
  • Be ready to maintain and improve internal and external client relationships.
  • Be engaged while overseeing the management of all processes related to revenue recognition, unbilled, billing, collections, and management of the billing team.
  • Own monthly revenue recognition process for time and expense, fixed prices, and other alternative fee arrangements.
  • Develop and maintain written operational policies and procedures to ensure compliance with revenue recognition methods.
  • Manage the billing team and process to include accounting and management of the matter life cycle: set-up, maintenance and monitoring of matters in compliance with contractual requirements.
  • Manage and analysis of unbilled, billing process efficiency, accounts receivable and collections.
  • Execute and maintain highly effective communication with the Client Service teams to ensure proactive management of the financial performance of key matters
  • Provide leadership and direction to billing team to ensure day-to-day operations within the revenue cycle management are billed and collected accurately and efficiently
  • Develop and implement solutions in D365 F&O to optimize the revenue, billing, and collection processes, including e-bill matters
  • Collaborate with the Practice Managers team to manage and monitor matter-related information, which includes: Client billing contact information resolution, when necessary; Client bill rate management, including e-billing; Proactive WIP and collections monitoring; Effective utilization of D365 F&O and Power BI reports
  • Improve the process and timeliness of capturing hours and costs for affiliates and independent contractors to ensure efficiency and inclusion in the monthly billing process.
  • Monitor and report on key metrics - cash collections, DSO for A/R, speed to bill WIP, speed to collect, AR and WIP aging, payment plans, and, write-downs and write-offs.
  • Inform all teams and leadership about trends and issues impacting financial performance.
  • Summarize detailed data clearly and concisely so that information is actionable and in an easy-to-understand format
  • Participate in system implementations and upgrades as it pertains to the revenue and billing processes, ensuring that functionality is robustly tested during user acceptance testing
  • Manage employee performance and mentor staff
Desired Experience & Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting or General highly preferred
  • Ideally, 10+ years of experience with the revenue and billing cycle in a professional service company
  • Exposure to law firms, consulting or professional services environments is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory and/or management experience
  • Strong ERP training preferred; MS Excel skills required
