Job summary

The City of North Miami Beach seeks a highly experienced Public Works Director to lead the department with a strategic, performance-based approach. The role emphasizes administration, budgeting, and policy development over technical engineering details.

Candidate will oversee design, construction, and inspection of public works projects, fleet operations, and sustainability initiatives, reporting to the City Manager and collaborating with officials, consultants, and the public.

Qualifications

• Requires a Master’s degree in engineering, business, or public administration.
• Five years in executive or high-responsibility public works leadership.
• PE certification preferred; CPWP-M preferred.

Responsibilities

• Directs and coordinates the design, construction, and inspection of public works projects.
• Oversees city fleet, solid waste, recycling, and maintenance programs.
• Develops department budget and 5-year CIP; presents to City Manager/City Council.
• Sets goals, policies, performance measures, and work plans for the department.
• Represents Public Works to City officials, consultants, contractors, and the public.
• Ensures compliance with ADA requirements and city ordinances.
